Phone a Friend...

This is for all you folks sending your child to kindergarten. That's right. Here in WNY state, we're starting school tomorrow. I just need to tell you a few things.

Get on the phone, email, or Facebook and make a date with a friend for lunch or before. Preferably with someone going through the same thing, or not to far removed. They will understand where you're at.

Prepare yourself for the drop-off or pick-up, which ever your case may be. With #1, it was a drop off, with #2 it was a bus pick-up. Your child may look at you sadly, with big puppy dog eyes and say they don't want to go. They are just trying to make you feel good. Hey, you've devoted your life for the past 5 years to their health and welfare. They know a good thing.

Have the milk and cookies waiting when they get home and listen to whatever they tell you went on that day. If they say nothing, it may be just a little off base, but listen anyway.

They may tell you they don't really want to go back the next day, because they missed a whole day of Nintendo, playstation or tractor driving. Just smile. They'll figure it out soon enough.

Don't be surprised if they don't come home with the jacket or sweatshirt they left with. Get familar with the location of the lost and found box. Some of your best stuff may be in there!!

Have a fun date for lunch or Starbucks or your favorite yarn or fabric store. Relish the time away, and enjoy your friend. Chances are, when you get home and meet your new-schooler, they will forget all about you crying in the morning. It's OK mom. We all do it. They are so DARN cute and innocent and nothing will ever be the same again.

I love this post. Natalie ended up in the wrong classroom even though she knew where to go.

And she left her jacket at school, too!

But what you did best is make sure the milk and cookies are ready on day 2601 also.... and be ready to listen to anything.
