Clean Sheets...

Ok, so this week I heard on the radio that on the average, the British people change their bed sheets ____ times a year... now, what is your guess?? I would say more often than I do, but maybe not every week, like my mom. I think Willowe is often, because she really has a laundry routine down. Matter of fact, she made gallons of laundry soap this week. She's good for months of clean. Now perhaps the weather has an effect and after googling it, I find the answer was in Britain, the average is 3 times a year. 3 TIMES!! A YEAR!! Wow!! I am so far ahead of that!! And I love the smell of fresh from the line sheets, except you know, when it is rainy like this summer, it might take them a week to be dry when I want to take them down, but 3 times a year?? not even ME! Even if you took a bath or shower every night right before bed, those sweaty summer nights would get to you, wouldn't they??
Is that why the bedbugs bite?? Because they have plenty of time to set up colonies in there?? Oh, dear... so, will you confess?? You could post as anonymous and no one would know...teehee

Yikes. I can't even imagine. And if it's not that often, I'm surprised they admit it!

Ok, it's probably only once a month in the winter but definitely more often if we've been sick or in the summer when it's hot.
It was really awful a few years ago at our house. We were struggling to rid our house of MRSA (resistant staph that my hubby picked up on the burn unit after being burned in a fire at our house) we had to wash everyone's bedding and towels EVERY DAY!!! In HOT water. And dry them in the dryer on Hot- all the way dry!! ACK! It about killed me!!!!

I'm a once a week person...Tuesdays...rain or shine, snow or sleet. That's me...scheduled.

We're at about once every 10 days, at least every 2 weeks. Our sheets are so old and worn out that sometimes it is hard to tell anymore! Stitching new, linen shets sheets are on the list of summer projects.

wow, I would never had guessed that low of a number. I don't have a regular routine, I should but I'm not a regular type person...so, it's not once a week, but it is several times a month usually, probably 3 times a month, sometimes 2 times a month if I'm really scattered. I like clean smells. I would do it once a week if I was disciplined enough, just too busy!

Living in Europe for 2 years (but 30 years ago) also bears the fact that the daily bathing is more American culture. Is it our propensity to be wasteful, the playing out of the "Arrogant American" label we have in most other countries, vanity or (I hope this is it) just trying to be a 'good neighbor'? So, add one bath/shower a week to the mix of clean sheets 3x a year. But then I spent last year Jan in a culture with dirt floors and mosquito nets...

Not sure where the radio station got that tidbit from. I can only assume someone surveyed some stinky students.

Everyone I know over here in the UK changes their bed every week to two weeks.

Me? Sunday afternoon, come rain or shine.

Thanks to you all for your responses. I'm glad we're all clean and shiny! And maybe one of us should post a CLEAN SHEET alert every 2 weeks to remind us!!

Judy-
I remember the whole MRSA scare around here. The kids were not slapping hands before and after the games...like touching the same ball over and over again was not going to transmit something!! Whatever!!

I'll be looking for Tuesday's clean sheets!!

Granola Girl- Stitching them out of what?? extra wide or seaming up the middle?? I like to put them on my Christmas list Every couple of years. This year it was a new mattress pad. Giving someone an idea of something I can use all the time - the best gifts!

Jen-
I pictured you as a list/routine person. It's not bad that you aren't. It is interesting what you find out.

Dirt Floors and mosquito nets- I could do it for a good cause, but I have to admit, that it would be a bit like the week at the beach, where you climb into sandy sheets every night...is it even worth it to try to keep the sand out??

I have a college student that doesn't bring laundry home. I thought they always did. I can only hope and pray that he is clean and shiny at school..or his friends are equally un-laundered!
