Today's post is what happens when your memories take over. I was over on Rachel's blog this a.m. and I decided to write her a comment on her post about planning her garden for this coming season...you know, it's what we do when we are buried under 5 or 6 foot of snow around here...dream of days of digging DOWN instead of digging OUT!
So, on the side of Rachel's blog is a little widget thing that says WHAT I'M READING ..and it shows a book by Jane Yolen...which reminded me of quite a while back,a book by Jane Yolen that I had to go buy at the bookstore, not that I didn't buy books, but I was careful with my money and it could only be found in hard cover, but we had checked it out of the Library so many times, that I felt it was worth the price. It was Alex's pick and it was call OWL MOON...
"Today I'm a grown-up, and I'm a grown-up, too. We're very busy doing what we grown-up people do. " We read it OVER AND OVER AND OVER, but it's been 25 years or more and I can still recite "..We're going for a ride, We're riding in a boat. Baby John fell overboard to see if he could float. He only drowned a little. He didn't even cry. We're having milk and cookies while we wait for him to dry." It's OK. Baby John is that Teddy Bear hanging his arm out of the buggy on the cover... But it is a fun, sing-songy story... and I'll have to find it. Wonder if Kyle and Sarah remember the words, too??
I think I'll go to the shelf and see what else is up there that I can read without looking... The Star bellied Sneetches..of course...Seuss is like that..
Tell me, what about you?? What books do YOU recite with your eyes shut??? What books remind you of those snuggle-up reading years??? Everyone should have some favorites??

Goodnight Moon got left outside one night and had to be replaced.

A women of the Bible storybook of Andrea's went camping and looks really bad, but was saved because it was one of her favorites!
I love the Sandra Boynton books. Snuggle Puppy is a big hit at our house.
I have to add Mouse Mess and My Back Pack. There are a Zillion more but those two come to mind. Also Berenstain Bear books and Seuss and One Snowy Night and Pooh books and on and on. I LOVE childrens' books and Thackeray does too!

I forgot, one of my all time favorite good stories are A Long Way from chicago and A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck. If you haven't tried them you should pick one up in the Junior section at your library.
Very funny.
Am I a bad mom because I only remember one of the favorites? HMMMM guess I can't cut and paste the book here? It's a Bernstein Bear "The Spooky Old Tree" "Three little bears, One with a stick, one with a light, one with a rope..."
MY personal fav as a wee one was AA Milne ... When we were young... and Now that we are Six.
BTW (Hmmm, that means more than by the way ;-)
